Representations of women in selected novels by Agatha Christie

The bachelor's thesis deals with the representations of female characters in selected detective novels written by Agatha Christie in order to find out whether and eventually how it reflects the historical reality in terms of the position of women in contemporary British society. The subject of research is works originating from various periods of the writer's authorship, namely from the 1930s and the 1970s. The focus of the work is the analysis of female characters in the books Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Nemesis and Elephants Can Remember focusing on the believability of the characters and the importance of their role in the story. Particular attention should be paid to the issue of the position of women in society and shifts in the perception of women's issues in the examined period.
Depiction of British Society in Selected Novels of Agatha Christie

The Thesis explores how the British society is depicted in Agatha Christie's detective stories. The theoretical part introduces briefly the Golden Age of detective fiction and Christie's position within the genre. It also gives an outline of the social conditions between the Wars. The analysis is based on three country-house mysteries, the attention being paid to the classes, village and the social changes that took place in the inter-war and post-war period.
Comparison of the sitcom Roseanne and Helena with regard to theories of social classes and lifestyles

The bachelor thesis Comparison sitcoms Roseanne and Helena deals with, as the title implies, comparision of two sitcoms. The work focuses on all aspects of sitcoms. Starting with a name and ending with the description of characters, environments and storylines. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question whether these two sitcoms differ,or not. If so, how? Furthermore, the social stratification of families presented in the sitcom is analyzed. This analysis is based on the Bourdieu's theory of four forms of capital. Moreover, further attention is paid to the connection of lifestyle and membership of a particular social class. The research is based on qualitative research, respectively, from the content analysis with qualitative approach. The research is based on the observation of several episodes of the mentioned sitcoms. Subsequent analysis, comparison is based on the detailed notes taken from the observation and episode-watching. The thesis also defines the term sitcom itself, yet it provides a brief overview of the unique sitcoms produced by the United States and Great Britain. Additionally, it includes all Czech sitcoms and soap operas that can also be considered.

Consumer culture of social classes in terms of food purchasing and consumption habits Monika Novotná Abstract This work deals with historical and sociological view on the issue of grocery obtaining and consumption between the end of World War II to the present. Grocery obtaining and consumption is understood as a symbolic expression of social status in society. The work is divided into two parts. Theoretical-historical part examines how food consumption is linked to changes of social stratification. Research part of thesis builds on the theme of food consumption by examining the shopping habits in relation to social class. The main question of theoretical-historical part is whether and how food consumption, relates to social differentiation. Trend of convergence of differences in consumption and rate of consumption stratification of social classes are monitored in time series in two eras - the communist period and the period after 1989. For both periods, a secondary analysis of historical data on the consumption of specific types of food that aims to detect differences or similar trends between social classes. This bachelor thesis deals with lifestyle research of the population of the Czech Republic and ABCDE classifications used in the Czech market, as possible indicators for society segmentation in marketing. The first theoretical part defines the essential concepts of sociology and marketing. The second practical part analyzes specific data of leisure time activities, household facilities and ABCDE classification. The third part, the conclusion is the linking of theoretical knowledge as well as practical and assessment of the impact and utility of this knowledge in the marketing area.
